Local Hand Dyed Merino Wool
dyed by:
Nikki Wheeler
I met Nikki at The Etsy Winter Craft Sale and had to buy some of her gorgeous yummy hand dyed merino wool. It has been wonderful buttery and soft to work with. Nikki is a talented fiber artist who uses paper, felt and lovely colors in her art. This is a flower I felted from her wool.

The Burke Museum has a small ornithology collection, but their Breeding Phenology of Washington Birds program has some pretty amazing bird egg photography by Scott Wilson, who was able to photograph and help catalog the collection.

Nesting.
Kitty was not very impressed with my nest making. Thankfully, she kept very calm and did not disturb my twine spool.Only a few more to go!
Tomorrow I go out into the forest and find some twigs to embellish the nests. I will also use some dried seaweed, harvested by a dear friend of mine. Also, I am speckling the eggs, so i will be studying some eggshells to accurately recreate the look with wool.

Cozy Cowl Neckwarmer by Queen Heron Creations
Six hand crocheted cowl neck warmers have been posted on my Etsy shop today! They will be available in several gorgeous colors throughout the season.
I love these cozy, versatile neck warmers! I made several for myself after I saw some gorgeous actress in a British tabloid wearing one similar with jeans and a t-shirt and I loved the look. Many friends and strangers asked "how can I get one?" I decided to debut a few at the etsy winter craft sale, and now they are available online!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Crocheted Cowl Neckwarmers
These are hand crocheted from wool/acrylic blend yarn, and are super soft and cozy.
They are all hand crocheted with love and light!
Cowls are the perfect accessory for a winter walk in the forest, running errands, or outside waiting for the train.
My special stitch gives this cowl the perfect drape, shape and structure, and the yarn is super soft and snuggly to wear.
It's hard to just have one color for yourself! You can pull it over you shoulders, or over your head and make it a hood.
Year after year, this is a must-have accessory.
Some of these stylish cowls are now available in my Etsy shop. Come by and take a look!

In love with Icelandic wool
I just picked up 10oz of gray Icelandic wool from Weaving Works. I am totally in love with the smell and texture of this fiber! I first spun a sample of it and made a 2-ply cord to wear as a belt for my Halloween costume.
Then I felted a sample of it and was very impressed at how quickly it felted up. I decided to add some merino wool to it and made a creepy neckscarf to wear for the season. I would like to felt longer scarves, but unfortunately I only have the length of my bathtub to work in right now. Sigh.

Candy Corn and other Creepy Halloween Inspiration
I love Halloween, and one of my weaknesses this time of year is definitely candy corn. I both love and despise candy corn. I decided to needlefelt some of these sweet treats so I would enjoy the sight of them, while avoiding the feeling of stomach discomfort after ingesting them :(
This year I am going out on the town as a dark sorceress. This blog is totally inspiring my dark sorceress costume. I love Lady Lavona's Cabinet of Curiosities! This lady really knows how to keep it creepy in the most artful of ways.
